As a result of legislation changes effective December 1, 2021, AMHSA has updated our Health and safety Committee and Health and Safety Representative training!
AMHSA now offers a 4 hour Enhanced course, 2.5 hour Foundations course, and online eLearning course.
HSC and HSR Training
Health and Safety Committee (HSC) and Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Enhanced – 4 hrs
This revised course includes fully updated content to reflect new legislation and exceeds the requirements for mandatory training for all HSC members and HSRs. This 4 hour class is an excellent resource for users who want to know more than just the basics. This course has been reduced in run-time from 6 hours to 4 hours and includes opportunities for classroom discussion.
Health and Safety Committee (HSC) and Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Foundations – 2.5 hrs
The legislation governing Health and Safety Committees (HSC) and Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) has changed substantially with the OH&S Act, Regulations and Code changes coming into effect December 1, 2021. Q&A
Q - Does your online, on demand HSC/HSR eLearning course include the new legislation?
A - Yes! Our revised eLearning course is now available. Click here for details.
Q - Do all of my HSC/HSR members now have to participate in HSC/HSR training as of Dec. 1, 2021?
A - Yes. It is now a requirement for all HSC and HSR members to be trained. Training content must include: the roles and responsibilities of co-chairs, HSC members, and HS representatives; work site party obligations; and worker rights under the OHS Act. Employers may develop and provide the training themselves or use an outside training provider, as long as content requirements are met.
Q - Does HSC/HSR training have to be developed or delivered by an approved third-party training provider?
A - As of Dec. 1, 2021, training may be delivered by a third-party, or developed and offered internally, as long as content requirements are met. Training content must include: the roles and responsibilities of co-chairs, HSC members, and HS representatives; work site party obligations; and worker rights under the OHS Act. AMHSA’s Foundations and Enhanced courses both meet the requirements for HSC/HSR training.
Q - Will there be an online course with “just the changes” available, which will qualify for HSC/HSR training?
A - The "Important H&S Committee Changes" webinar is a brief overview of changes to HSC/HSR but it is not meant to substitute for HSC/HSR training. Due to the significant number of changes to the Legislation, AMHSA will only provide a certificate of training if the new HSC/HSR classroom or online courses are taken. To gain a full understanding of the Dec. 1, 2021, legislative changes, AMHSA recommends participants take the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code Overview course.
Q – If I had no previously approved training in HSC, and take the free 1-hour webinar, is my training up to date?
A – No, the "Important H&S Committee Changes" webinar is a brief overview of changes and is not meant to substitute for HSC/HSR training. AMHSA’s Foundations (eLearning and live, instructor-led) and Enhanced classes both meet the requirements for HSC/HSR training
Q – Do I receive a certificate for attending the free webinar?
A – No, the "Important H&S Committee Changes" webinar is a brief overview of changes and is not meant to substitute for HSC/HSR training.
