Workshop - Enhancing Safe Work Practices for Trenching and Excavating
When it comes to trenching and excavation work, crews face complex and potentially life-threatening challenges.
Accidents happen. Injuries are preventable. Together, we can make these jobs safer, smarter, and more responsive for all workers.
In partnership with the University of Alberta, AMHSA is hosting a series of interactive, collaborative in-person workshops. The insights gathered will inform the development of best practices, decision aids, and schematics to support safe, efficient trenching operations.
Taking place in 2025, the first workshop explored how trenching and excavation work is done in the field, and how we can better support real-time decision-making through practical tools, shared knowledge, and innovations.
We’ll explore:
- How trenching and excavation work is actually done in the field
- How we can better support real-time decision-making through practical tools, shared knowledge, and innovations.
Now, this second workshop will expand on the topics from the first to further enrich and enhance our learnings.

The workshop will be held at on Thursday, March 26 from 8:00am - 1:00pm at the Quality Inn Fort McMurray.
