Aquatic Health and Safety Awareness: Identifying Slip, Trip, and Fall Hazards

The Aquatics Health and Safety Awareness campaign is designed to raise awareness of occupational health and safety concerns for those working in and around aquatic facilities, and to provide free and accessible resources to workers (including vulnerable/new/young workers), supervisors, pool facility operators, and organizations. The webinars are no cost, open to all attendees, and will be recorded and made available following the event.

This 45-minute webinar is presented by a fall protection engineering expert who will highlight known and overlooked slip, trip, and fall hazards in the aquatic pool working environment. The subject matter expert will support you in strategizing how to start or enhance your existing fall protection program and how to identify hazards before selecting fall protection solutions. Following the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of our subject matter expert.

  • Identify known slip, trip, and fall hazards and their contributing factors.
  • Learn to create a strategy to identify slip, trip, and fall hazards.
  • Create awareness of slip, trip, all fall hazards specific to work parties/departments.
  • Review Alberta occupational health and safety legislation - specifically, hazard assessment [AB OHS Code 7(1)], and Fall Protection – General Protection [AB OHS Code139(1)].

If you are involved with claims management, returning injured employees to work, completing hazard identification, or reducing workplace injury risk, you have probably heard of a Job Demands Assessment (JDA); sometimes known as a Physical Demands Assessment (PDA), Physical Demands Description (PDD) or Physical and Cognitive Demands Assessment (PCDA). This session will explain what a JDA is, what information is contained in a JDA and who should write a JDA. Lastly, this session reviews how JDAs can be used by multiple business units within an organization.

Ergonomics Coaching & MSI Prevention: Dynamic Warm-up

Date: September 17, 2024

While the dynamic warm-up is targeted to field workers, office employees would also benefit from this interactive presentation. This session begins with the importance of warming up the muscles before engaging in heavy work, along with tips on how to roll out the program, then a variety of dynamic movements are demonstrated to increase heart rate and muscle temperature to prepare the body for work. Participants are encouraged to complete the dynamic movements along with the facilitator.
