The Aquatics Health and Safety Awareness campaign is designed to raise awareness of occupational health and safety concerns for those working in and around aquatic facilities, and to provide free and accessible resources to workers (including vulnerable/new/young workers), supervisors, pool facility operators, and organizations. The webinars are no cost, open to all attendees, and will be recorded and made available following the event.

This 45-minute webinar is presented by a fall protection engineering expert that will review the types of system in a fall protection plan, discuss the limitations of each system, and how to address the limitations to support building and implementing an effective fall protection plan. This discussion includes understanding the requirements of anchoring points, and providing examples of anchors commonly found in the aquatic pool working environment. Strategies of how to select fall protection systems will be presented including questions to ask the equipment manufacturer and the contractor installing the anchor points, prior to purchasing the equipment or service.

Understanding the elements to develop an effective fall protection plan and implementing it, is vital to protecting workers at fall hazards.

Following the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of our subject matter expert.

• Overview of parts a fall protection plan.
• Know the parts of a fall protection system.
• Classification of system limitations in: guardrails, travel restraint, fall arrest, and control zones.
• Implement a fall protection system(s) and plan.
• Differentiate anchor point requirements from common anchor points found in the aquatic pool working environment.
• Formulate questions to ask manufactures or training providers prior to purchasing services or equipment.  
• Review Alberta OHS legislation - specifically, anchoring strength [AB OHS Code 152].

Who can attend?

All AMHSA members are welcome to attend. Voting, motions and seconding are reserved for the authorized voting delegates of regular members. Questions are welcome from all members.

Who is a regular member?

A regular member includes any municipality which is a corporation pursuant to the laws of the Province of Alberta and holds a valid Workers’ Compensation Board account.

Who can vote?

Voting delegates who are authorized to vote on behalf of their municipality, and who have submitted their signed authorization form, are eligible to vote, motion, and second.

How do I vote?

Each regular member shall be entitled to one vote on every matter properly put before members at a meeting for a vote. Voting will be done by Zoom poll for virtual attendees.
