Professional Driver Improvement

The PDIC program is a nationally recognized driver improvement program developed by the Canada Safety Council, for the benefit of drivers and employers of personnel who operate commercial vehicles as part of their work tasks. This course, through the use of visual aids and qualified instructors, will show your drivers how to avoid potentially dangerous situations. Managers, fleet safety officers and administrators are encouraged to ensure that staff members who drive company vehicles; or drive personal vehicles on company business, complete a PDIC course at least every two years, as part of their due diligence in the promotion of corporate safety. Course includes classroom instruction, case studies, videos and an exam. Recommended for employees who drive commercial vehicles as part of their work tasks.


  • PDIC is for classes of licenses other than class 5 passenger vehicles, for example Public Works and Equipment Operators.
  • All students who participate in the PDIC program, pass the knowledge exam with 80% or better and have a valid class 5 Alberta Driver’s License will qualify for a 3 point demerit reduction on their license (may be applied for at any registry office)
  • Minimum passing grade of 80%
  • AMHSA recommends this course be taken every 2 years
