Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committees

This classroom / live webinar based Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committees is intended to help ensure supervisors and workers discuss health and safety issues in the workplace and work collaboratively to find ways to address them. These committees will be responsible for:

  • Inspecting work sites for hazards;
  • Helping employers respond to health and safety concerns;
  • Helping resolve unsafe work refusals;
  • Helping develop health and safety policies and safe work procedures;
  • Helping with new employee health and safety orientation; and
  • Developing and promoting education and training programs.

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Describe the new legislative changes as they relate to Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committees (JWSHSC);
  • Describe the different types of JWSHSC;
  • Describe the basic rights of workers;
  • Deal with work refusals;
  • Understand the responsibilities of all parties;
  • Know the role of the JWSHSC and safety representatives;
  • Know the basic procedures for conducting effective meetings;
  • Understand how to present recommendations; and
  • Understand how to prepare meeting minutes.

Duration: Full Day

Prerequisite: Please note that as of December 13, 2019, Health & Safety Committee (HSC) and Health & Safety Representative (HS Representatives) Part 1 training is no longer a mandatory requirement for HSC Co-Chairs and HS Representatives. Part 2 training remains a mandatory requirement for HSC Co-Chairs and HS Representatives and will now be known as "Joint HSC/HS Representative Training." It is still required to receive this training from a government-approved training provider like AMHSA.
