Sharon Young

Sharon Young is passionate about the continuous improvement of health and safety performance in the municipal sector.  She believes in a risk-based approach to implementing a management system that incorporates accountability at all levels of the organization.

Sharon has worked in the oil and gas industry, in a large municipality, and was on AMHSA’s Board of Directors before retiring.  She is now “out of retirement” and working full-time with AMHSA

Sharon holds her Canadian Registered Safety Professional and Professional Engineer designations and is a Certified COR auditor for AMHSA.  She also has an MBA and Project Management Certificate. Sharon has led many Joint worksite committees in the past and is an expert within Joint Contractor program assembly.

Additional areas of particular interest and experience for Sharon include:

  • Risk management and strategic planning at senior management level
  • Aligning strategy with business priorities
  • Auditing health & safety management systems and developing effective, practical action plans
  • Facilitation of safety and risk processes with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Mentoring senior management and leadership teams on achieving safety objectives
