Participants must bring a laptop to class that runs MS Excel

This course covers the principles and practices of health and safety management system evaluation and teaches participants how to use AMHSA’s municipal health and safety audit workbook. All municipalities participating in the Partnerships program must have at least one person trained in health and safety auditing.

The course involves classroom instruction, group discussion, practical exercises, and a written exam. Topics include:

  • An introduction to the Partnerships in Injury Reduction program and Certificates of Recognition
  • Basic auditing theory
  • The audit process: pre-audit preparations, data gathering, reporting results, and submission procedures
  • An overview of the AMHSA audit workbook
  • Quality assurance guidelines

Recommended for managers, supervisors, foremen, joint health and safety committee members and health and safety coordinators. Participants wishing to become certified peer auditors should have strong written and verbal skills. Computer proficiency and experience with Excel is strongly recommended.

Prerequisite:

  • Health and Safety Management Systems

Notes:

  • Participants must bring a laptop to class that runs an updated and current version of MS Excel
  • In order to achieve auditor certification, participants must pass a written exam (minimum passing grade is 80%) and successfully complete a certification audit within 6 months using the municipal health and safety audit workbook
  • Auditor certification expires 3 years from date of issue. In order to maintain certification, auditors must complete the following prior to their certification expiry:
    • Complete 2 audits that pass QA requirements
    • Attend AMHSA’s Health & Safety Audit Refresher course or Health & Safety Auditing course

Duration: 2 Days

CEU points: 1.2

BCRSP: The current class contains 12 technical hours and may be eligible for CM points.
