WHMIS: Train-the-Trainer

Note: This course reviews WHMIS 1988. Employers will have 3 years, until Dec.1, 2018, to fully comply with WHMIS 2015. Alberta’s OH&S Code is currently being revised to follow the new federal legislation, a process that may take up to a year. For more information on WHMIS 2015, please visit www.whmis.org

WHMIS legislation requires that employers provide training to all employees who work with, or in proximity to a controlled product. This course provides participants with detailed WHMIS information so that they can provide the required WHMIS training to other municipal workers. Certified AMHSA WHMIS trainers instruct workers in the generic aspects of WHMIS, as well as their municipalities site specific program. Although the course does include some training tips, it does not cover trainer development topics such as adult learning instructional techniques, etc. Participants must feel comfortable training employees. Knowledge of adult training concepts and experience as a trainer will be beneficial. Recommended for managers, supervisors foremen, and workers selected as WHMIS trainers. Course includes classroom instruction, group discussions, exercises, video and an exam.

Note: Participants must pass the exam with a minimum of 80% in order to receive a Trainer Certificate.
