Winter brings additional health and safety challenges and a significant increase in injury rates.
Winter Ready for Leaders provides insights into the types of injuries we can experience, along with strategies and tools to prepare and reduce incidents during the winter season.
All participants will receive a certificate of completion that they are "Winter Ready."
Please note that this session is open to AMHSA municipal members only (attendees will receive their registration confirmation via email once approved). It is our last workshop offered in 2020.
PHS 102: Prevention: Program Selection, Measurement and Evaluation

This one-day program provides a foundation for how to select and evaluate programs impact for preventing mental harms and promoting mental health.
Prevention is a critical success factor for facilitators to focus on. Having a program and participation is not enough to define success. The purpose of this foundation course is to provide facilitators with basic knowledge and skills to for how to support program selection, measurement and evaluation.
PHS 102 is approved for 10 CPD hours through CPHR-Alberta.
Certificate Program
Building on the successful delivery of the two-day Psychological Health and Safety Facilitator Certification program that was offered this past June, Alberta Health and Safety Association (AMHSA) and its strategic partner, Howatt HR, will be releasing five additional course offerings starting on November 23. These five new courses will enable participants to work towards a Psychological Health and Safety Facilitator’s Certificate.
AMHSA is also offering the opportunity for participants to register for selected individual courses that will result in a certificate of training upon completion for each course taken.
The goal of this program is to support organizations in developing practical workplace mental health strategies and the mental health competencies of their operational leaders. Upon completion of all courses, participants will be certified as a Psychological Health and Safety Facilitator. All courses may be completed within 24 months.

◙ AARFP Conference & Trade Show

The Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel (AARFP) is delighted to host the 45th Annual Conference and Trade Show, The Bridge To Recreation.
Recreation is more important than ever, the role it plays in the lives of individuals, communities and its ability to bridge the differences between people, cultures and communities. What better way than to build upon the current skills and tools you have, then through a conference of like-minded individuals who are also looking to connect and learn. This year’s conference program gives you the opportunity to learn and share from others who face similar challenges, successes, as well as learn from the experts who have bridged the gaps.
With over 30 education sessions, numerous tradeshow exhibitors, inspiring keynote speakers and opportunities to network. Recreation professionals will take away information that will help them bridge the gaps in recreation, collaborate with community members and inspire positive changes.
The conference will be held in Lethbridge, AB on April 21-24, 2024, with attendance by 250-300 delegates in recreation operations from all over Alberta and a few from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories.
