Learning Content and Design Specialist

We are growing! The changing digital environment of training within the municipal sector has led AMHSA to an increased focus on course development and graphic design to ensure delivery of quality training to our members. As such, the following new position has been created:

Learning Content and Design Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment and will possess superior communication and project coordination skills. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a broader team that includes the Project Manager and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in the production of both classroom and online training, including self-paced e-learning, virtual webinars, and video-based micro-learning, software demo, and job aids while adhering to project timelines and learning goals.
  • Coordinate, liaise, and collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs) to extract and understand technical content for content review and feedback.
  • Produce classroom course materials, storyboards, write/edit scripts, audio recordings, and coordinate technical rehearsals with presenters/instructors for webinars, training presentations and videos.
  • Review and update existing course content, edit existing videos as required.
  • Respond to a broad range of internal technical and operations procedures-related training requests and inquiries.
  • Project management of work product for multiple customers.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices.

JOB TYPE / CATEGORY

Temporary, full-time employment. One-year contract. Position to start as soon as possible. 20% Travel may be required. AMHSA offers a flexible work week.

LOCATION:

NW Calgary, or Sherwood Park, Alberta

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency and experience in dealing with technical engineering content and design drawings, for instance: tunneling, boring, and / or construction would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3-years of successful experience in training content development, technical writing & communications, or project management/coordination or related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in adult learning, instructional design preferred; Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP)™ or Certified Training Practitioner™ or similar qualification.
  • A proven ability to handle multiple projects, set priorities and work under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to execute and follow training production timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform technical content in to visually engaging and audience focused presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal and meeting facilitation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide audience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with technical SMEs and internal team member.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES:

  • Experience designing learning experiences and facilitating learning.
  • Experience with video editing and eLearning software or similar software (Captivate, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, etc.).
  • Proficient in graphic design platforms (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, etc.).
  • Core competencies in Learning Management Systems (LMS) - Storyline (SCORM).
  • Considered desirable is direct experience with BIS Training LMS.
