Location: AMHSA Corporate Office - Calgary

Municipalities, tell us what you think:

Fit for Duty Focus Group

Firefighters have the highest level of risk associated with fatigue accumulation and psychological exposure to harm, while still needing to be at peak physical fitness, a necessary requirement for the job.

Most Alberta municipalities use volunteer Firefighters who are often held to the same work standard of full-time firefighters. However, most volunteers have primary jobs that are outside of municipal functions. As a result, they may be at higher risk for workplace related fatigue accumulation and stress.

AMHSA, along with WCB and SIX Safety Systems, are engaging municipalities to identify how they currently address the impact, barriers, and gaps related to physical, psychological, and fatigue-related risks; and other potential gaps. This information will help us develop a Fit for Duty guide for firefighting operations.

We encourage all municipalities to take part in this important focus group.
