Important AMHSA Auditor Update

December 14, 2007

Partnerships Program

AMHSA, Alberta Employment and Immigration (formerly Alberta Human Resources and Employment), and the Workers' Compensation Board have teamed up to help municipalities earn special financial incentives while developing and implementing their health and safety management systems. This voluntary program is called Partnerships or Partners in Injury Reduction (PIR).

Cetificate of Recognition (COR)

Any municipality in Alberta can participate in this program. A municipality implements a health and safety management system and has the system audited through an external audit arranged through AMHSA. If the municipality's system meets the minimum standard, it can achieve a Certificate of Recognition (COR). The municipality then maintains its COR through annual audits.

Under 10 employees? Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR) program.

How does the financial incentive work?

Successful municipalities can earn a PIR discount from the WCB. To qualify for the PIR discount, municipalities must have a valid COR and meet additional Partnerships program requirements. The incentive ranges from 5% to 20% of the industry premium rate, depending on the municipality's claims cost history. This discount is in addition to any reduction or discount from WCB. Contact AMHSA with any of your questions about the program. To qualify for this incentive, municipalities need to register in the PIR program with the WCB: PIR Registration Form (pdf).
